Letter to Mayor

April __, 2017

Dear Mayor __________:

Thursday, May 4 is this year's annual "NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER" and our nation's 66th consecutive annual one since being established by Congress in 1952. This year's theme is “For Your Great Name’s Sake! Hear Us... Forgive Us...Heal Us!” based on Daniel 9:19.

We appreciate your leadership as mayor. You hold a key position and place of influence in (your community). Please don't miss this opportunity to issue a proclamation for a Day of Prayer in (name of municipality, town, etc.) this year! Use your own design and wording or pattern it after the enclosed sample mayoral proclamation. It was adapted from a state statute passed some years ago and will save you time.

Please file a copy of your proclamation for future reference and release a copy to our local newspaper. Your many constituents will want to read your informative and inspiring document at gatherings for prayer in their families and at workplaces, parks, schools, municipal buildings, and places of worship. Some mayors send copies to the clergy so they may read them at their prayer gatherings on the "National Day of Prayer," Thursday, May 4, 2017. Please send a copy to my pastor (clergyman), (name and address of your pastor).

We also would so much appreciate a copy for our records. A photocopy is fine. Send it to (your name, your address).

We will faithfully pray for you and other civic officials here in (your town) throughout the year and also remind our pastor and church to pray regularly for you in obedience to 1 Timothy 2:1-2.

THANK YOU so very much! May God bless you with wisdom, health, excellent judgment, courage, peace, and the respect and good favor of all you serve. Faith and prayer will greatly help our community through the difficult and uncertain times ahead. May God's comfort, strength, and presence be sensed in times such as natural disasters, terrorist threats, or acts of senseless violence, economically difficult times, and other tragedies beyond our control.

Sincerely,

(Your name)

Please feel free to use the above sample letter, adapted version, or portions of it. Please note that it mentions the "enclosed sample mayoral proclamation" so be sure to print out and send a copy of a sample proclamation with your letter. See first link below.

God bless and reward you!
